Purr-fect Dental Care for Cats
Cats are masters of keeping secrets, including dental problems. But our vets know what to look for during regular check-ups to catch any signs of discomfort early. Daily tooth brushing helps, and a short dental procedure can make all the difference.
Keeping Your Cat’s Teeth Purr-fectly Healthy
Brushing your cat’s teeth every day is the gold standard for keeping their pearly whites in tip-top shape. It might take a little time to get your feline friend used to the idea, but don’t worry – we’re here to help with advice and tips to make it easier.
For a thorough clean, regular scale and polish treatments can work wonders. Think of it as a trip to the dental hygienist, but for your kitty! Since cats aren’t exactly known for sitting still, these are done under a short general anaesthetic to make the experience as safe and stress-free as possible.
Watch Out for FORLs!
Cats can also suffer from something called Feline Odontoclastic Resorptive Lesions (FORLs). It’s a bit of a mouthful, but what it means is that part of the tooth is being eroded away, causing painful holes in the enamel near the gum line. It’s a common issue, especially in cats over five, and may need extraction to stop the discomfort.
If you spot any signs of trouble, like reluctance to eat or drooling, give us a call. We’re here to keep your cat’s smile healthy and happy!

Cats often hide their discomfort. Watch for symptoms like reluctance to eat, drooling, or red gums. If tartar is already an issue, professional care may be needed to bring back that purr-fect smile.
