Leptospirosis Vaccine for Dogs

Leptospirosis, often called "lepto," is a bacterial infection that can affect both dogs and humans. While that might sound scary, don't worry – we've got you covered. The vaccine helps keep your dog safe from this potentially dangerous disease, which is spread through contact with contaminated water, soil, or even other animals' urine.

At Maggie and Marlow, we include the lepto vaccine as part of our Pet Health for Life plan, so you can spread the cost and keep your dog protected all year round.

Leptospirosis FAQs

What is lepto, exactly?

Lepto is a bacterial infection that targets vital organs like the liver and kidneys, causing serious illness. It spreads through urine and can get into your dog's body via the mouth, nose, or open wounds.

What are the symptoms of lepto in dogs?

Watch out for:

  • Fever
  • Jaundice (yellowing gums and eyes)
  • Muscle pain or weakness
  • Increased thirst
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Breathing difficulties

If you notice any of these, give us a call. We’re here to help!

How contagious is it?

Dogs can still pass on the bacteria for up to six weeks after treatment. To be safe, we treat any suspected cases in an isolation unit.
